Featured Tenant - Soccer City

Julia Ford recently met with Simon Clark, the Leeds business man with a natural flair for the promotion of healthier lifestyles and the world of indoor sports and activities.

Soccer City is in a great location, just outside Leeds City Centre, and Simon could instantly see the potential for the building, which has large space capacity and ample car parking. He told Julia that one of his first tasks was to dramatically improve the kitchen facilities, enhancing the menu choice and incorporating a mix of healthy options. His café menu is available every day and he can also provide catering for children's parties, and corporate / family events, with the added advantage of a fully licensed bar.

In addition to the traditional "5 A Side" Football tournaments, Simon has introduced Tag Rugby, for both girls and boys, and Leeds Rhinos have been tremendous in helping him get this off the ground. Tag Rugby is run every Tuesday evening and anyone is welcome to join in.

The children's soft play area is safe and confined and offers a perfect setting for younger children's parties and ideal for amusement on those rainy days! Also on offer are Disco Parties for girls and football parties for boys. Simon has now incorporated a brand new gym onto the first floor, with large gallery viewing windows looking down over the childrens area, allowing parents to "work out" whilst keeping an eye on the kids.

The gym is equipped with state of the art equipment and fits nicely with the healthier lifestyle approach Simon is encouraging. Plans are also being made to refurbish more of the first floor to offer services such as Sports therapy, massage and manicures! Leeds Skate Park, The Works

We got to know Simon initially as a result of his tenancy of "The Works", the home of Leed's Skate Park, which is one of Towngate's properties on the Airedale Industrial Estate in Leeds. The Works Skatepark is the leading Skatepark in the UK, catering for skateboard, BMX and inline skating. They host an Extreme Sports Academy with the NHS which is the first of its type in the UK.

Situated in central Leeds, within easy walking distance of the train station, bus station and city centre and being just off the M621 (Junction 4) makes the park easily accessible for all. The main attraction of the Works is a massive, well equipped, indoor skatepark, split into several sections, catering for both beginner and advanced riders and skaters. The Park features 25,000 sq ft of high quality ramps and obstacles built to the highest standards by professionals. Throughout the Park there are various viewing areas for spectators. Upstairs there is a café, mediacentre, seating area and a free video game lounge.

In addition to sessions, the skatepark often plays host to events, demos and film premieres starring the biggest names in BMX, skateboarding and inline skating. Simon has run the Leeds Skate Park for the last 5 years as a business, however the Skate Park has recently applied for and won charity status, thus becoming "The Works Skatepark Charity" and is supported by both the NHS and Change for Life.

The initiative is invaluable in encouraging young people away from the streets and gives them a hobby, whilst encouraging fitness. A great all round physical activity, which fights childhood obesity and encourages fitness for life.
