CASE STUDY

LoneStar Leeds

by Julia Ford

With the Covid-19 pandemic limiting face to face contact for the past 2 years it was a real pleasure to recently visit one of our established tenants, LoneStar Leeds based at Airedale Industrial Estate, and meet Jon Collinge, Managing Director.

Born from the merger of LoneStar LWD and LoneStar Grange, LoneStar Leeds was established in 2013. Predominantly servicing the oil & gas, petrochemical, and renewable energy sectors, LoneStar are global leading precision engineers of precision components, seals and gaskets and specialist surface coatings. With a unique selling point of being able to manufacture their products from start to finish, in-house without having to sub-contract to other companies, customers can be assured of a reliable and ‘hands on’ service.

As has been the case for many companies; the challenges of the pandemic, Brexit and now the unrest in Ukraine have meant some particularly difficult storms have needed to be rode at LoneStar, however it was very clear to see upon our visit that the staff have pulled together to create a hardworking team and the company is well equipped for diversification if needed.

Jon kindly arranged a walkaround tour of the office space and warehouses and the sheer size of the machinery and the technical ability clearly needed to operate them was extremely impressive. The engineers were working in a precise, controlled manner and it was easy to see that the upmost care is taken upon the manufacture of each product.

The company are passionate about the future of the engineering and manufacturing industry and educating young people in the skills and rewards of this type of work. With this in mind they are looking to work with some recruitment companies this year to take on young apprentices and train them up to work alongside and eventually become engineers.

The Company, and its previous formations have been in occupation of Units 2, 2A & 2B at the Airedale Industrial Estate for many years and a strong working relationship has developed between Towngate and Lone Star.

Jon Collinge, Managing Director at Lonestar Leeds commented:

“Towngate have been an excellent Landlord to deal with over the years, and have worked closely with us in order to maintain and develop the Kitson Road site into the high class manufacturing facility it is today”.

Airedale Industrial Estate benefits from being strategically located, approximately 1.5 miles from Leeds City Centre, just off Hunslet Road (A61) and the Hunslet Distributor.  The property also benefits from being located within 1.5 miles from Junctions 3 and 4 of the M621 Motorway. Lone Star’s neighbours within the Estate include; Lowe Engineering Limited, Tesla Motors Limited, Fastenell Europe Limited, Troy Foods Limited, LS-TEN (Leeds Skate Park) and the City Climbing Company (Climbing Wall).
