Towngate lease sees LEW Electrical double footprint at Leeds trade counter

By Lucy Rotchell

Towngate PLC, the North’s leading commercial and industrial property experts, has welcomed LEW Electrical Distributors to the business’ second unit at Leeds’ Copley Hill Trading Estate. Now with double the footprint at this development, the expansion marks a significant milestone for the award-winning electrical wholesaler, which currently boasts 18 branches across the UK.

Having occupied the neighbouring 4,946 sq. ft Unit E3 since 2016, LEW now boasts more than double the footprint in Leeds, with an additional 4,955 sq. ft afforded by the newly occupied Unit E2. The wholesaler benefits from a larger trade counter and storage operation, facilitating the delivery of its complete electrical service offering to the commercial, domestic, and industrial sectors, as well as the general public.

Units E2 and E3 form part of a large terrace at the highly sought-after development, which hosts a range of high-profile clients including Crown Decorating Centre, Howdens, Carpetright, Clifton Bathrooms, BAPP Industrial Supplies, Wolseley UK, The BSS Group, and Nicholls & Clarke.

Key features include a sizeable yard and ground-level loading area, out-of-hours barrier entry and CCTV, generous parking, 6.27 metres eaves heights, and high-quality ancillary offices to support day-to-day operations. Plus, with leases on both of the side-by-side units and therefore more external space, LEW now has the flexibility for the loading and unloading of much larger commercial vehicles too.

“This is a prime spot for LEW,” commented Josh Johnson, operations director at LEW Electrical.”Not just because of the excellent amenities on site, but because of its location too. Leeds City Centre is approximately one and a half miles Northeast of the estate, with the M621 situated even closer, providing excellent links to the national motorway network and bringing greater efficiency to our UK-wide operations.

“Having leased the neighbouring unit since 2016, we’re confident in Towngate’s ability to manage high-specification trade counters like ours. Plus, with their knowledge and expertise, transactions are always refreshingly clear and transparent. When we noticed Unit E2 hit the market, it was an opportunity we simply couldn’t pass up, and we’re thrilled to have double the footprint to play with.”

LEW was co-founded in 1993 by managing director Andrew Johnson and his father, Keith Johnson, and has since grown to become one of the UK’s leading independent electrical wholesalers. From humble beginnings in Gainsborough, the company is now proud to offer award-winning customer service and complete service offerings to branches across Lincolnshire, Yorkshire, the Midlands, and the Northwest.

Tom Lamb, property manager at Towngate PLC, said: “We are delighted to have been able to facilitate LEW’s growth within the Copley Hill Trading Estate. The duo of properties provides a prominent and modern home for LEW in Leeds, situated within this established and popular trade location, with excellent links to the national motorway network.

“The development’s existing tenants complement the business perfectly too, creating a hub of sought-after services spanning the commercial, industries, and residential sectors. So, it’s a win-win for the region too.”
