On the afternoon of Wednesday the 27th August, Julia Ford, Marketing Manager, paid a visit to David Hardwick, Managing Director of Artisan Bakes, currently occupying the Towngate owned Unit 1 Flanshaw Industrial Estate, Flanshaw Way, Wakefield, WF2 9LP. They signed a lease for the property in November 2024 and have transformed it into a delightful place to work. The space comprises a modern bakery, with contemporary office space and staff welfare facilities.
The company was established in 2009 by David and his wife, and they are proud to now run a team of 19 staff, including two of their sons, giving a real family feel to the business. Included within the team are creative, skilled and professional artisan bakers, operating with SALSA certification, committed to the highest standards of food safety and allergen management, delivering factory level peace of mind with truly artisan products.
They are a wholesale craft bakery, producing over 100 lines including cakes, brownies, flapjacks, traycakes, a wide range of vegan and gluten-free products and much more.
All products are created using traditional artisan methods sourcing the finest ingredients, however, what really sets them aside from other bakeries is the fact that all their products are made by hand, by highly skilled bakers and decorators.
David gave Julia a tour of the property, with a glimpse into the kitchen where all the magic takes place, along with the storage freezers and distribution and packaging hub.
“I left with a sense that Artisan would be a wonderful place to work and has a real family feel, and thank you to David for taking the time out of his busy schedule to meet with me” commented Julia, “and I even left with a beautiful Raspberry, Coconut and Lemon cake, to share amongst my colleagues back at HQ. As you can see from the picture, somebody could not wait to take a slice!” Julia also commented, “We are already looking forward to the Christmas Catalogue arriving!”
