Introducing Our Financial Accountant, Amy Jaques

by Julia Ford

This month, we shone the spotlight on Amy Jaques, our financial accountant – to hear more about her role at Towngate, career aspirations, and life outside work…

1. When did you join Towngate and what was the original role you were employed to do?

I joined Towngate in March 2014, and it’s hard to believe it’s been nearly a decade. My journey began as an assistant accountant, primarily handling fundamental bookkeeping duties and payroll responsibilities. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to shoulder increasingly substantial obligations, ultimately climbing to the role of financial accountant.

2. Give us a little insight into your current role and your day-to-day duties:

In my current position, my responsibilities cover a wide range of financial functions, including managing accounts, forecasting cash flows, budgeting, and overseeing bookkeeping tasks. Additionally, I manage and mentor a fellow Towngate team member. Collaboration within our team is a cornerstone of our success, helping us achieve our goals.

3. What studies have you undertaken since starting at Towngate, and what are your current qualifications?

Towngate has consistently supported the development of team members, including my pursuit of further education. In 2015, I chose to commence the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) pathway, and I am currently part-qualified. It’s been an eight-year journey to this point, which included a pause in my studies for two years due to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the added responsibilities of raising three children. I now have four professional exams left to achieve full qualification.

Furthermore, I am currently working towards a BSC (Hons) Degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University. Graduation photographs to follow in July 2024!

4. What are your future career aspirations and plans for further study?

My career aspirations involve continued growth and leadership in the field of finance and accounting. I aim to achieve full qualification in ACCA and complete my BSC (Hons) Degree in Applied Accounting. Ultimately, I aspire to take on more strategic financial roles — contributing to the growth and success of the business — and potentially explore opportunities for executive leadership in the long term.

5. What do you enjoy doing outside the world of work and study?

Outside of my professional and academic commitments, my family is the centrepiece of my life. I am fortunate to share my life with an incredible husband and three wonderful children. Our free time together is filled with exciting adventures and relaxed movie nights on weekends.
