The Towngate Team were delighted, during May, to take part in a memory walk, dedicated to David Smith, Founder of the Towngate Group. As many people will be aware, David passed away on the 31st of May 2023 following an illness he had battled, right up to the end. At no time did his enthusiasm dwindle and he was a constant inspiration and source of encouragement to the whole team and indeed, all those lucky enough to have known him.

We could think of no better location to start our walk from than David’s hometown of Brighouse, (also home to the Towngate HQ). We joined the Calder & Hebble Navigation, following the towpath out of the town towards Brookfoot, and subsequently Elland, Salterhebble, Copley, and into Sowerby Bridge. Along the way, we were treated to scenes of narrow boats, with their occupants whiling away their day, and newly born goslings on the grassy banks of the canal. We finished our walk at the Moorings, for a well-deserved and refreshing drink, with the afternoon culminating in a wonderful meal at the Temujin Restaurant. It was fun to watch our chosen ingredients being stir-fried up into the woks and all the dishes were delicious!

A wonderful commemorative afternoon with great company and thank you to our retired colleagues, Nick Yates, and Robin Gallagher for taking the time to join us.
