A Reflection On Towngate’s Last 12 Months With The Anticipation Of A New Financial Year Beginning…

by Julia Ford

As with lots of organisations, April sees the start of the new business year. After the busyness of March and the year end, here at Towngate, we tie up any loose ends from the year gone by and set budgets and goals for the coming year.  The month of April provides an opportunity to not only look forward, but to reflect on the last 12 months, appreciating our achievements, and propelling us with renewed vigour, into the year ahead.

The 2024 edition of our annual property newsletter, ‘The TG Times 2024’ is now live and available to download digitally through our website. We thought for our April blog, we would tie this in and bring you just some of our highlights over the last 12 months, as referenced in the newsletter.

New Tenants We’ve Welcomed

We have been fortunate to gain some fantastic tenants over the last 12 months across a number of sites within our portfolio; To Woodvale Office Park, Brighouse, where the Towngate HQ is located, we have assisted Hawley Group Holdings Ltd with their expansion into additional space, along with Stark Building Materials Ltd to Parkview House.  JNP Consulting Engineers Ltd and Mandate Systems Ltd also moved into the ground floor of Woodvale House.  We have seen Tiger Trading Manchester Ltd take occupation of a 5,500 sq ft unit at Walkden, Manchester, Dawson Group EMC Ltd move into Unit AR1 Armytage Road in Brighouse and Generation (UK) Ltd, Sigma Retail Solutions Ltd and WeDo Business Ltd take up residence at the thriving and strategically located Haigh Park Road Industrial Estate, Stourton, Leeds.

Featured Case Study from Mey-Tech

Our annual tenant visits were back in full swing for 2023 and within the newsletter you will find a report of our visit to contract laminators, Mey-Tech, who have been in occupation at our Armytage Road site for the past 7 years. It is a top priority for us throughout each and every year to maintain strong working relationships with our tenants and it is always gratifying to receive their positive comments – view the case study here >>

Property Renovations & Projects

The past year has also seen a number of refurbishments take place within the Towngate Portfolio; Having previously undergone external refurbishments to some of the trade counter units within the Copley Hill Trading Estate, Leeds, we took the opportunity to revamp and enhance the entrance to this premier estate, by installing an illuminated totem. The ground floor at Woodvale House, Brighouse, underwent a reconfiguration and refurbishment in readiness to welcome our  new tenants in the spring, and our 6,004 sq ft Unit 3C Airedale Industrial Estate in Leeds, a modern end terraced warehouse/industrial unit, underwent a full refurbishment in the latter part of the year. Staff News & Events

It has been another busy year for the individual members of the Towngate team too with many achievements and special moments. May saw our Property Manager, Tom Lamb run the Rob Burrows Leeds Marathon and raise a fantastic amount of money for the MND Association charity. Our Facilities Manager, Jake Wilde, hit the big 4-0 at the end of September and November saw our Managing Director, Steve Forrest head off on a bucket list trip to Chile! Some of the Towngate next generation also ticked off key educational milestones with first days at school right through to leaving secondary school and attending prom!

Charitable Donations & Support

Throughout the last year our charitable giving committee has continued its support of many different charities. We are mindful that charities have experienced additional struggles over the last few years due to Covid-19 and the cost of living crisis, and we are happy to have been able to provide support via fund-raising, donations and volunteering. We are proud that several members of the Towngate team volunteered their time last year to collect Christmas trees, help out in donation centres and host a coffee morning. There is plenty of information within the newsletter of the charities we have supported over the past 12 months so please take a look, and we would encourage you, or your business, to volunteer and support wherever possible.

In Memory of David…

As a final note, you will see as you read our newsletter, that this year’s edition is in memory of our late Chairman and Founder, David Smith, who sadly passed away on 31st May 2023.
