MEET THE TEAM…We Get To Know Edward Smith-Beacham & Find Out What Gets Him Up In The Morning

by Julia Ford

We had the pleasure of sitting down with Edward Smith-Beacham — our extremely valued junior surveyor — to discuss his role, biggest career achievement, and a little-known fact about himself.

Edward, your 60 seconds start now…

1. What’s your favourite element of your role at Towngate?

Its flexible approach to hybrid working. I enjoy a mix of time in the office and getting out and about on regular site visits — something Towngate has been very understanding of.

2. What’s your biggest work achievement to date?

Passing my A2 Certificate of Competency (CofC) and General Visual Line of Sight Certificate (GVC) drone examination, first time around. I am now fully qualified to pilot drones that weigh between 500g and 25kg, in non-restricted areas.

3. Name one thing people might not know about you.

I’m into country and blues music — and I’m particularly partial to Carrie Underwood!

4. What one word would you use to describe the property sector?

Booming.

5. Describe what you get up to on a typical weekend.

I mostly try to switch off and relax, see family when I can, and follow football.

6. If one of your colleagues could win an award, who would it be and why?

I’d have to nominate our facilities manager, Jake Wilde, for single-handedly keeping Pot Noodle in business!

7.  If you were in charge of Towngate for the day, what would be your No.1 goal?

I’d organise a staff social for the whole team to get involved in.

8. Describe your job to an alien.

There are many different elements to my role, but essentially, I’m a conduit between our tenants and contractors who maintain our properties to the standards we are so proud of.

9. If you could trade places with somebody for 1 day, who would you choose?

The greatest athlete of all time, Michael Jordan.

10. What’s the best advice you were ever given?

My Great-grandad Bert used to say, “you only get out what you put in,” something that’s always stuck with me.
