The Ladies Complete Steptathalon for Cancer Research in July – Who Is Crowned Winner?

by Julia Ford

Lockdown and the coronavirus has affected so many people – not least the charities who are no longer able to run their worthwhile events which raise essential funds for people in need.

Sadly Towngate ladies weren’t able to put their running kits on as planned in July for the 5K sprint in Huddersfield, normally organised by Cancer Research UK.

All was not lost however, as between them they almost completed the equivalent of the race, entering in to the spirt and taking part in a steptathalon throughout the month.

Competition was high and in aid of their efforts, Rob and Alan Smith from Towngate agreed to sponsor them, donating a generous sum of £200 to the charity. They were joined by the girls from Andersons who also joined in the steptathalon and donated a further £100.

After totting up everyone’s steps, we are pleased to congratulate Lucy Rotchell, PA at Towngate, on achieving 349,907 steps throughout the month. Julia declared Lucy the official winner this week and presented her with a bottle of fizz to enjoy as a small reward!

Well done Lucy, and hopefully we will see you all out running again in 2021!
